The Ukrainian-American Credit Union Movement in the United States exceeds 107,000 family memberships primarily concentrated in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio and Illinois. Our asset base has surpassed 2.2 billion dollars. We are part of the United States Credit Union Movement, which encompasses over 75 million members and over 400 billion dollars in assets.

The membership of the Ukrainian ethnic credit union movement in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Ukraine is approaching 200,000 family memberships. The combined assets exceed two billion USD. The International Credit Union movement has grown to encompass over 96 countries, over 177 million members, and over one trillion USD in assets.

Our success stems from a coordinated effort by the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU), USAID, Canadian Cooperative Association (CCA), Ukrainian National Credit Union Association (UNCUA), Credit Union Foundation, United States Department of Commerce, Canadian External Affairs and many other leagues, credit unions and individual credit union members in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

Your finances are safe in Ukrainian American Credit Unions

When our parents and grandparents arrived in the US, one of the first things they did was establish their own financial institutions. Since they believed in cooperatives, they founded credit unions, cooperative financial institutions which belong to their members and serve their communities.

In today’s difficult economic environment, with so many commercial banks, insurance companies and brokerages facing financial crises, your Ukrainian American credit unions continue to be safe and secure, paying a stable and dependable rate of return for our savings while providing a wide range of affordable financial services.

Your savings are now federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration to a minimum of $250,000, with an additional $250,000 of federal insurance for your IRA account. Ask your credit union member services personnel how you can increase your federal insurance even higher.

If you are not yet a member of a Ukrainian American credit union, stop by one of UNCUA’s member credit unions or visit the credit union’s website to set up your account on-line (see US Credit Unions).
